I've been doing loads of updates on my social and book shelf sites (facebook and the like)
and I've been writing....
Sigh, I almost hate to admit I've been writing Bring on the Rain Book 2, because in the background I've been writing on it for a year now, and deleting. (wince)
I have to admit that it's one of the most requested books that I get asked to do, by readers and reviewers who remember it.
BOTR was written in 2005, finished I mean, but it got overhauled and re-written 5 times, before the final book came out. It's over 400 pages final product and the cast is huge.
Fast Forward that same cast to the present day, actually Brook was 17 at the end of the first book and she's almost 24 at the opening of this one. That means everyone's lives have changed. It's not hopping along as fast as it might have if I'd gotten to write it after the first one came out (I had contractual obligations and didn't get the time.) Also the tone has to be much different because Madeline, the H in the first book was 37, raising a teen. Now we're talking about younger woman.
LOL, readers also wrote me a dozen questions about the big "heartbreak" at the end of Bring on the Rain, asking how Brook would handle it in the future, if she'd forgive or which of the sexy copper creek men she'd end up with. I still don't know that. I'm getting to know her as I write this book, but I'm also having to get to know some of the others who've grown, and who readers identified with. It's by no means as easy as I thought it would be, getting into their grown up heads, discovering just like a reader would, what influenced them in the (gap of years) what baggage they have. what dreams they carry.
But I'm working on it, slowly. I, like the readers, enjoyed the final story of BOTR, and I got close to the characters. I want to do them justice. So my fingers are crossed they will eventually relax, start trusting me again, talking to me the way you need characters to open up to you, and get to know them...And of course, that wild copper creek gang was a big hit with readers, so it's very much a part of the tone and unfolding story. I'm working on it.
meantime, happy reading all.
