Doing research this week: I've a list that is pretty long to start with, lol. Thing is, I get caught up in reading (about) stuff, It takes me weeks to sit down and write the story that's nagging my brain. I've a certain way I write the first draft, has to be in order, or else I could make it a lot easier on myself, and write first/weave in research later, like a few writers I read say they do it.
My thing is, I'm a (senses) writer, I have to have the visual in my head as well as see and smell and hear everything in that time period. It's not all new to me, I've researched most of it before, I just need to get a (feel) for it again. I had every intention of starting an outlaw/gambler type of of western, then I came across something while reading a Newgate prison journal that got the muse off in another direction, lol. I've got to start the book in England, then take it to America, and keep it (dark.) Trick is not to get so lost in research I lose the characters, who came to me first, a very dark hero and (survivor) h/ who just need the right place and time in history to start their "Beauty and the Beast" type of story.
We'll see how it goes....Hopefully it won't be one of those that flubs out. (wink)
Happy reading, D
