It's a cool 87 after being 98 and higher for weeks. Got a tad bit of rain after watching it pass over us (and seeing heat lightening for days and nights) It's too late for my poor flower garden (everything fried) and the crunchy grass, but at least we can breathe outside. LOL
I had a convo with hubby who is having a rare day off. He's all laid out on the berkline, wishing FB season was here, but thrilled to catch a Redskins game....and I say, "God, this heat won't let up. I'm ready to move somewhere that it rains all the time and is cooler."
He says, "Washington state, but babe, I'm too old to move again. And, so are you."
Of course, my brow goes up. (Did he say I'm old?)
He looks at me, and the bell goes off in his head. He says, "But I'm ... >> full

I'll have some excerts up next week, some pre-view of the Rakehell books, and... I'll post the other blurbs, too. I've got to talk with my (does everything for me, gal) this weekend and see what her time looks like on getting the formats and covers and getting the books up. Then, it's up to when the retail sites list them.
My my jill-of-all-trades works a job, has 4 kids from teen to 4 yrs, so I rolll with her schedule as much as possible. We have a check and double check system (doesn't mean something don't get by me, it does, lol) but if I have to pull a book, I will, and re-issue. Crap happens, ya know. Stuff goes wrong all the time. Some I can fix, others I gotta start at square one again. Sometimes it's on me, and others it's the retail sites that are glitching. But ... >> full

Reader question: Have you ever submitted to a BIG NY print publisher.
Answer(s)
Yes. first time in 1985. I sent a big ST western to St Martins (TOR). Got a request for a full. However, I had two small kids, two jobs and no time. I never got back to them. (I know, talk about missing the boat) but looking back on it, I wasn't ready. I still had much to learn.
In 2000 I submitted a query to the new HQN line. I promptly wanted to crawl in a hole. At the time a published author Suzanne McMinn was teaching me query and blurb writing, I realized the query I sent read like the Dead Sea Scrolls, so I was estatic when the form R came (instead of a letter saying, never send us another thing you talentless hack, lol) in any event, I stopped there and ... >> full

(It will prolly get tweeked a bit, but this is the basic)
NOTE to self, read all NOTES to self before posting a blurb from memory, lol)
Edmund Deforest, Earl of Southerton Sotherton was simply enjoying a typical day at his club, along with his friend Sascha Auttenburg, Viscount Whitford, when the latest news to rock the ton started buzzing again. The Rakehell Marquis of Hawksmoor had claimed yet another daughter—one Alexandria Royer. The last of 3 Daughters the Marquis had claimed was somewhat known in society for her outspoken manner and bluestocking tendencies, but no one could possibly guess what Edmund remembered Alex for….
Known for his cool and aloof mien, his arrogance and detachment, the tawny-eyed Southerton Sotherton moved in the highest circles. Edmund had his bitter secrets and his way of wearing a masque, and that would come in very handy since, when he put the name ... >> full

I'm not sure if established author's still do that. (Who has time these days) being a writer or otherwise. But back when I started, (I know, dinosaurs roamed the earth, right?) we had access to well-known authors via boards who would mentor. Sometimes that meant answering publishing questions (print publishing was all we knew in those days) others would critique query letters or even stories. I always admit I did everything wrong before I did it right, my instincts were good and I could write a big honking novel, but the tools were lacking. I got the best advice from known writers as well as a few agents on those boards. I did 3 years of learning the craft before I submitted anything (although I finished several manuscripts) I joined critique groups, sometimes there were 17 people, some I would critique among friends, and once I got published (I ... >> full
