Chapter One
If there was anything that could be said about the Broomfield clan, it was that they knew how to bring in the holidays, in particular Christmas. The Broomfield’s held the best parties during that time of the year complete with parlor games, skating and sleigh rides, just about any form of celebrating to be dreamed of. The widower Squire Morley Broomfield had happily given away three of his four daughters, two had wed viscounts and one an earl, but though he welcomed and truly enjoyed his sons-in-law, no one in the neighborhood, including himself, ever thought of those beautiful and vivacious creatures as anything but “The Broomfield gels”. Margie, Ruth and Miriam were talented, intelligent, and possessed of golden hair, blue eyes, and enough spirit to make any man feel alive around them. Oh, and there was Mary, of course, she fit ... >> full

Winter Heart Gayle Eden Copyright © 2006-2009 Gayle Eden Chapter 1 Hambelton Court looked like a fairyland of white snowdrifts, icicles suspended in their dipped shape from the roof of the sprawling estate house, and the lakes and ponds frozen over. Snow sparkled on the ground and trickled from a blue sky in wispy flakes. The servants had outdone themselves inside and out. But at the moment, it was the outside that Clare Ross was gazing at as she prepared for her day. The long bricked drive had been shoveled clean in anticipation of the guests, who would arrive for the week of parties, visits, and general gaiety. Each of the black lampposts was sporting a red ribbon. The benches round the skating pond had been cleaned; the sleigh was polished to a high gleam and snug inside the carriage house, to await that dash across the countryside. However, Clare's satisfaction came from ...>> full

Prologue
Lord Tierney, known as Rafe to the cousin he regarded across the room, was both thinking of the winter snowstorm brewing outside, whilst all of society began the holiday celebrations with abandon. And, recalling that cold and bitter journey down from his northern boarder estates, to reach his cousin, Julian Maine, Duke of Raulston’s side, years ago. Though a man known for his brawn and intimidating height, called a wild barbarian by the more polished ton, Rafe felt a shiver run down his spine. He sipped more whiskey, his own brand that he carried in a flask to refill and replace tepid punch and watered down wine at these lavish but poorly feasted London mansions. His moss green eyes peered from too dark skin, a rugged face framed with unfashionably long wine red hair. The Raulston’s ... >> full

It appears that Harly did some name changing of their VANITY arm. Now their calling it DellArte. I read that over at Galley Cat (several posts down)
I'd also checked out Mrs G's post on it, rofl. I couldn't resist looking up the word myself to see what it meant. delle'arte (comedy of humors) Commedia delle'Arte, Farce, etc. Buffoon.
(I think what they were aiming for was doubtless the connection to the Harlequin, but grimace, I think considering the firestorm that followed the announcement that was an goober head choice for a name. consider that ppl will google it come up with tags like (Machiavveli, fool, and so on) sigh. Where's the thinking heads behind this whole "bad idea?"
And can we all say again, it's not self pub, it's vanity. Meaning you pay, you get nada. I can't help but wonder though how ethical this is when ... >> full

BLACK FRIDAY
I've never really understood it, since most of the stuff stays in the store for weeks....and most you can find without getting yourself on the 5 oclock news.
But please people, it's horrible that some guy was ran over and killed last year (by shoppers) and others injured. If you're sales clerk, you're prolly paying your boss even in this econ to (not) have to work and deal with people that day. I used to work in retail, it sucks to have people spoil your own holiday mood by the time you get off work because they've thrown every chip on their shoulder at you, the sales lady that day. lol. People act terrible in stores.
When we lived outside DC all those years, I used to dread, dread, hate, working in retail at holiday time. I quit it soon enough, because It made ... >> full
