Chapter Three
Bailee Parish paced the moonlight bedroom, her bare feet soundless on the smooth floors. "Foolish. Don’t do this,” she whispered and unfolded her arms to run her fingers though her hair. She made herself sit on the edge of the bed. Holding the mattress edge, toes curled against the wood, and eyes staring at nothing. She almost hadn’t come. If it weren’t for Mag, for all she meant to her, their closeness, she wouldn’t have. She thought she was over it. No, that wasn’t true. She had avoided coming back, being anywhere near him, because she never really would get over it. LOL, I swear, I've been trying to finish up Val's book (#2 of my Rakehell series) and while going back through stuff, I feel like I'm never going to get done. AAARRRGG. I've been writing/editing for a solid 12 hours now.

His breath shuddered out like a beast escaping his soul, feeling then, the blood that pumped in his body as well as rivulets of it in his face and over his hands, something burning on his ... >> full

Moyra's head pounded. She dozed on and off, lying against Gaètan’s side, aware that he wore his gun openly…and that he drew many narrow-eyed looks, which he pretended to ignore. And that he smelled heavenly, warm and comforting in the confusing crowd of passengers.
The trip seemed never ending to her, except for the eating and rest stops, and the short times she felt well enough to listen to conversation or discreetly eye some of the passengers.
She had no idea where they were when Gaètan finally escorted her to a hotel, and she fell onto the bed and slept a day and a half, bathing twice before she felt the odor of the train ride leave her. She was completely dressed before the sounds were softened by the clop and churn of buggies, and an occasional call from the streets, soothing, normal sounds, ... >> full
